Media Protests This Week
Conde Naste Protest and Protest to Open the Senate Debates!
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 26, 5:30 p.m.
Graphic Artists Guild Protest Against Condé Nast
All illustrators, photographers, and writers are encouraged to converge
this Thursday, October 26, at 5:30 pm, at the British Motors Showroom,
901 Van Ness Avenue, in San Francisco, to hold an informational protest
outside the 5th Anniversary cocktail celebration for CondéNet, the
online branding component of Condé Nast Publications.
Condé Nast Publications require freelance contributors to grant the
company all rights to their work in perpetuity, in what is regarded as
one of the worst contracts in the industry. The company has launched
and is now heavily promoting the Condé Nast Archive, which repurposes
and licenses acquired materials for the company‚s sole profit, with
nothing going to the authors of the works. And, Condé Nast Magazines,
like the New Yorker, haven't raised their fees to contributors since the 1930s!
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 26, 5 p.m.
KRON Protest To Open the Senate Debate!
For something new and different, the Green Party candidate for California
Senator, Medea Benjamin, is being excluded from a televised debate between
Dianne Feinstein and Tom Campbell this Friday. KRON will broadcast the
debate on TV; KQED radio will air the debate. Stop the media from colluding
with the two party system to exclude candidates who challenge the status quo!
Show up at KRON or email debate questions to debate [at] sfgate.com.
