Mission High Mumia

by ShantiRain (rainjita [at] yahoo.com)
The house was packed, standing room only, in Mission High as a distinguished panel of guests, including Rubin "HURRICANE" Carter, speak on behalf of Mumia Abu-Jamal.
On Saturday October 14 supporters of Mumia Abu-Jamal gathered in support of a new trial and release. The panel consisted of Angela Davis, Rubin "HURRICANE" Carter, Danny Glover, Leonard Weinglass, Michael Franti, Mazy Jamal, Pam Africa, Mike Africa, ILWU & AFL union representatives, MOBE reps and more...

It was a truly historic event as Bay Area luminaries gathered to continue to build a stong community of resistance centered around Mumia's release. Their seemed to be general consensus concerning putting an end to the: death penalty, prison industrial complex, war on drugs, two party system, news for profit, health care for profit, racism, sexism and homophobia.

The youth represented strongly with both Franti and Mike Africa giving spirited spoken word performances and Mumia's son Mazy giving heartfelt thanks. Represent!
The ever militant Pam Africa still On The MOVE! and encouraging us to take down with this rotten ass system and all the mother fuk'rs in it!!!!!!!!!!!

Eloquent Angela Davis spoke on the importance of unification within the community, as well as addressing issues on a personal level.

The keynote speech was given by Rubin Carter, which focused on overcoming worldly illusions to achieve awareness of the ultimate spiritual reality of the universe. It was deep and inspiring to see him.

And props to all of the other speakers not mentioned here...

Wow, it seems like the 60's all over again! Well, I wouldn't be surprised anyway because afterall, we've had about 30 years to recuperate, rest and gain strength. And now, unlike how it was in the 60's, we have the wisdom and strength to make it last....forever.

Spread the Love to all,
