Saturday 7 October 2000,Web posted 8:30 PM (GMT+2), Ramallah, West Bank

Clashes spread today across the Lebanese-Israeli borders. Two Palestinians, Shadi Anas, from Bourj al Barajneh Refugee Camp, Lebanon and Hassan Hussein, from Shatila Refugee Camp, Lebanon were killed. Thus far, 20 Palestinians and Lebanese have been reported injured. Armed confrontations erupted between the Israeli military and Hizbullah, with Hizbullah taking hostage 3 Israeli soldiers. Israeli forces attacked a number of villages within Lebanon, with the Lebanese Resistance Movement retaliating with Katyusha rockets launched along the Israeli border.

Israeli helicopters have been shooting down at cars and civilians in various Lebanese villages, with reports of at least 7 injuries thus far. No further information is available.

Gaza
Funerals took place in Gaza today for those killed during yesterday\'s clashes. Hisham Ahmad Muqbel, 35 years old, from Gaza, died today from live ammunition to his chest near Netzarim Junction, following which clashes erupted. The unidentified Palestinian who was reported killed yesterday in Gaza was identified as Zuheir Riziq Darabyeh, from Jabalya Refugee camp. Rockets were fired again today by Israeli forces into Palestinian neighbourhoods near Netzarim Junction. A resident of one of the neighborhoods attacked today stated that this was the third time her home was hit during the past week, with today\'s attacks destroying her home.

At this time, the situation appears to be calm but tense in Gaza.

Nablus
Funerals took place today for those killed during yesterday\'s clashes. Muhammad Khalid Ihsein Awwad, 22 years old, from the village of Deir al Hattab, Nablus, reported in extremely critical condition yesterday, died today of injuries sustained from live ammunition to his chest. Following the evacuation of Israeli solders last night, Joseph\'s Tomb has been taken over by Palestinians. The site of Joseph\'s Tomb, formerly a mosque, has been under the control of the Israeli Authorities as a Jewish holy site for the past 10 years.

The situation at this point in Nablus is calm, but tense.

Ramallah
Clashes have resumed today along the northern entrance of Ramallah. Reports of intermittent shooting are coming in, with no information as to if there are any injuries.

Jenin
Clashes continued today, and are on-going at this time. At least 7 injuries have been reported thus far.

Tulkarem
Clashes continued today, and are on-going at this time. 10 injuries have been reported thus far, 4 of which are from live ammunition which has caused serious bone damage.

Hebron
Clashes continued today, with 17 injuries reported at this time.

The Palestinian Red Crescent Society reported today that a total of 18 Palestinians remain in extremely critical condition in the West Bank and Gaza.

The following are the latest statistics issued on injuries and deaths as of the evening of 6 October 2000, given at a press conference this morning by Riad Al Za\'noun, Palestinian Minister of Health.

The Palestinian Ministry of Education has announced that schools will re-open tomorrow, with families asked to use their judgement as to the safety of sending children to school.

The United States is now poised to exercise its veto power later this week when the UN Security Council meets to vote on a resolution condemning the use of \"excessive\" force against the Palestinians.
