AUSTIN, TEXAS - An enthusiastic group of concerned political activists met on Monday evening, September 25, to continue planning details of protests aimed at the Fortune 500 Forum gathering in Austin in mid-October.
The protests are expected to bring together a variety of community groups and individuals united by their common concern about the corporate threat to democracy, the privatization of government, corporate greed and corporation's role in human rights violations, corporate-dominated globalization, and other policies that put corporate profit before human needs.
Items discussed included outreach to local and national media outlets and designation of a media spokesperson; logistics of demonstrations such as route for the rally planned for October 13; and public education about the Fortune 500 Forum. Additional items discussed were direct action details such as skits, chants, posters and banners, and puppets; and security.
Organizing meetings are planned on a weekly basis with sub-committee meetings occurring throughout the week.
