POSTCARDS FROM SAN FRANCISCO: A Microphone, A Curtain, a Step
Forward

September 20--23 were a days of activism, education, and civil disobedience for media activists in San Francisco.

Throughout these days, activists made interventions that disrupted the NAB conference, marched on the headquarters of commercial media monolith (Clear Channel), engaged in multiple acts of civil disobedience, marched, rallied, performed, danced, brainstormed, endured
attacks and arrests from the SFPD, strategized about how to overcome corporate control of information in this country, and what next steps we might take together to move our network & movement building forward.

These three days were filled with energy, ideas, outrage, solidarity, power and joy. As a way of processing and sharing information, I am writing you e-postcards about my time in San Francisco with companer@s from Media Alliance, FAIR, thew NLGCDC, the SF IMC, the and other IMCs around the country.

Certain images I witnessed during the actions capture, for me, the spirit of the moment we are in and core issues raised by the movement we are building. These images are my postcards to you from the streets of San Francisco....

POSTCARD 1: A MICROPHONE

\"Power cedes nothing without a demand\" --Frederick Douglass

\"Who\'s willing to get arrested?\" asked Andrea Buffa, beaming with energy as she crouched down in her white rubber-soled sneakers. Hands shot up. A civil disobedience brigade formed, broke away into a separate discussion huddle, hammered out a plan, and then headed off to NAB convention center to carry out their action: an intervention at the NAB
