Stand for PEACE this Mother's Day
Because Mother’s Day is approaching on May 14th, I want to inform you about the true origin of this holiday; it was NOT invented by Hallmark. Mother’s Day was started in 1870 by peace activist, Julia Ward Howe, who was horrified by the carnage and suffering of the Civil War and wrote a proclamation calling on women to unite and oppose war.

Also, meet me at the White House for a Mother’s Day Peace Vigil from May 13-14.
Dear Supporter,
Because Mother’s Day is approaching on May 14th, I want to inform you about the true origin of this holiday; it was NOT invented by Hallmark. Mother’s Day was started in 1870 by peace activist, Julia Ward Howe, who was horrified by the carnage and suffering of the Civil War and wrote a proclamation calling on women to unite and oppose war.
As a mother of 2, I am looking to you to stand with me, the families of fallen soldiers, the Iraqi people– and against the war. If you are in the D.C. Area this weekend, unite with us in front of the White House to celebrate mothers all over the world by declaring an end to the occupation of Iraq! Or make a much-needed financial pledge as an act of solidarity with mothers who’ve lost a loved one in the crossfire.
This Spring, Global Exchange coordinated an astonishing national speaking tour with five courageous Iraqi women who shared personal stories about the true impact of war on the lives of the Iraqi people.
One Iraqi Mother’s Perspective
Dr. Entisar Mohammad Ariabi explained that women’s health, in particular pregnant women’s, has deteriorated. As a doctor and mother, Entisar lamented that by working without enough medicines or resources, she feels like she is assisting in the killing of innocent people.
“My one sliver of hope lies with the American people. No other force in the world can make the American troops leave our country. Please don’t let us down.”- Dr. Entisar Mohammad Araibi
We won’t let you down!
Help us stop this war! Just as Entisar said, we have the power to bring an end to the U.S. occupation of Iraq. By donating, your support will go directly to our efforts to:
* coordinate the Cities for Peace Campaign that is mobilizing more than 100 communities around the country to pass local resolutions opposing the war. This project will raise visibility of the pro-peace movement, as well as build grassroots pressure on policy-makers in Washington.
As a mother’s day present, give your mom peace with a gift membership (javascript:ol('http://www.democracyinaction.org/dia/track.jsp?key%3d121812040%26url_num%3d7%26url%3dhttps://secure.groundspring.org/dn/index.php?aid%3d2312');).
