Update on Zachary Jenson
Currently Zachary Jenson has no running water in his cell and is drinking from a bag of water that the guards have given him. He had a hearing in front of Judge England on February 21st. After being denied the right to counsel for nearly three weeks, the judge finally signed off on Zachary's court appointed attorney. This delay prevented Zachary's court-appointed attorney from getting discovery, hiring an investigator or getting paid. The delay was created by the US Attorney's claim that the attorney of Zachary's co-defendant Eric McDavid had a conflict of interest. The alleged conflict for Eric's attorney is that he was formerly a public defender. The public defenders office chose to not represent Zachary because they felt that would create the appearance of a conflict because of another client they represented. Now the US Attorney is attempting to use this same rationale to force Eric McDavid's lawyer out of the case and deprive Eric of his right to be represented by the attorney of his choice. The government's actions clearly indicate their intent to deprive both Zachary and Eric from their constitutional right to representation by competent counsel.
Zachary currently has enough books and thanks everyone for the reading material they have sent. Because of the jail's strict 5 book limit he has requested that people no longer send books. If you are a friend of Zachary's and wish to visit him please contact us at sacprisonersupport[at]riseup[dot]net. Zach would like to continue receiving letters. He would also like to receive pictures of fairies and crows. Remember when writing prisoners please do not discuss their case, issues related to their charges or what is being written in the news about them. All communications to and from the jail are monitored by the government. If you plan to write him please note that he has been moved (within the jail) so his letter must include his new housing information:
JENSON, ZACHARY X-4198632 8E213A
Sacramento County Main Jail
651 "I" Street
Sacramento, CA 95814
We would like to thank all the people that have donated money to Zachary's defense fund or organized fundraisers. That said, we still need to raise a considerable sum of money to hire Zachary the private attorney he has requested. If you organize a fundraiser or would like to donate you can send a check or money order made out to Sacramento Defense Fund (please make out all checks or money orders to that name so we can deposit it) to:
Sac Prisoner Support
PO Box 163126
Sacramento, CA 95816
Or donate to sacprisonersupport[at]riseup[net] through paypal.com
Also, please feel free to contact us with any questions about holding a fundraiser.
Update on Eric McDavid
After nearly six weeks of incarceration Eric McDavid is still not receiving vegan food. Nearly two weeks ago a jail nutritionist visited him and recommended that he be given two vegan protein shakes a day. In order for Eric to get these shakes it has to be approved by the doctor and the doctor has done nothing. Please contact the jail and politely but firmly demand that Eric be given vegan meals and the vegan protein shakes that the jail's own medical personnel are recommending. You can contact the jail at:
Sacramento County Main Jail
651 I Street
Sacramento, CA 95814
