Court update for Jonathan Paul and Suzanne Savoie

by friends of Suzanne Savoie (friendsofsuzannesavoie [at] yahoo.com)
A brief update on recently arrested activists Jonathan Paul and Suzanne Savoie
Just returned from court.

First, a note: neither Jonathan nor Suzanne has been indicted for anything. They were arrested on a criminal complaint of arson, which is different than an indictment, for the government has not yet developed probable cause.

Jonathan Paul was denied bail today, because the prosecution was not happy with pre-trial services' suggested conditions for release. Jonathan's attorney and the prosecuting attorney will meet soon to try and agree on terms of release, and the judge said he was willing to hear this subject again. Jonathan also has a preliminary hearing set in Eugene for 1:30pm on Monday, January 30, at the federal courthouse.

Suzanne Savoie turned herself into federal custody early this morning. Since her hearing was this afternoon, pre-trial services was unable to get information they needed to make a suggestion on whether or not she should be released. The judge reset her release hearing for tomorrow, January 20, at 3:00pm in Medford. He also set a preliminary hearing for Suzanne in Eugene at 1:30pm Monday, June 30 at the federal courthouse.

Since both Suzanne and Jonathan will either be released or moved to Eugene within the next few days, we don't have any addresses to send them letters yet. They are currently being held at Jackson County Jail in Medford.
