San Francisco (January 15, 2006) – Anti-War activists pressed local congresswoman Nancy Pelosi on her continued support of the Iraq War by way of continued funding for the illegal, unjust occupation – despite her public criticisms of the war. Pelosi also reiterated her refusal to sign on to impeachment hearings of President Bush, despite the evidence of high crimes and misdemeanors (illegal war, spying, and torture just to start with) already laid bare for the world to see. Before the event even began, members of CODEPINK, College Not Combat, Not in Our Name and others picketed outside the Marina Middle School “town hall meeting.” Following Pelosi’s presentation members of CODEPINK made their way to the front of the hall were they were joined by dozens of other anti-war activists. When it began apparent that there were at least sixty identifiable anti-war activists in the hall, including members of Iraq Veterans Against the War and Military Families Speak Out sitting in the front rows, secret service and local police scuttled plans to eject the protesters. Pelosi tried to make the best of the situation, but probably was not expecting hundreds of boos when she explained that she was not going to support impeachment proceedings, yet folks should put their energies into electing more Democrats if they want change.
