TRANSGENDER DAY OF REMEMBRANCE TOPS 250 EVENTS

Locations include several international locations, numerous high
schools

SAN FRANCISCO, November 14, 2005 - Remaining the largest multi-venue
event focusing on anti-transgender violence, over two hundred and
fifty locations worldwide will be taking part in the Transgender Day
of Remembrance held annually on November 20th.

The event has been growing Internationally, with events now being
formed in Australia, Canada, England, France, Israel, Italy, the
Netherlands, New Zealand, the Philippines, Scotland, and South
Korea, as well as more than two hundred events within the United
States of America.

"The transgender community is often over looked as as being on the
"fringe," a group too small and powerless to amount to anything,"
said event founder Gwendolyn Ann Smith. "That our community can lay
claim to an event like this, on such a massive scale, runs counter
to that belief."

GLSEN and the Gay-Straight Alliance Network have worked with the
Remembering Our Dead project over the last two years. Thanks to
these organizations, more than one hundred of the events will be
held at high schools across the U.S.

"How incredible it must be to be that age and know you can make a
difference," said Ethan St. Pierre, location coordinator for the
event.
"They're seeing the violence, and don't want the same fate as so
many others. Instead, they're rejecting the violence."

The Remembering Our Dead project <http://www.rememberingourdead.org> exists
to honor individuals murdered as a result of anti-transgender hatred
and prejudice, and draw attention to the issue of anti-transgender
