Gary Webb's Memorial Service Dec. 18, 2 p.m.

Dear All,
It is with regret that I face the necessity to pass on this announcement,
but I presume most of you have heard of the sad death of investigative
journalist Gary Webb. His revealing series in the San Jose Mercury about CIA
involvement in US cocaine supplies and sales helped end the public silence on
that issue, despite the way the Mercury virtually denounced his reporting. His
death is said to have been a suicide.
I hope many of us are able to attend his memorial, to acknowledge Gary
Webb's important contributions and to both mourn his death and celebrate his
life.
