Davis hosts Trans Action Week Monday November 15 - Friday November 19.
All events are free and open to the public.
Monday:
12-1pm -- Transgender 101: Questions & Answers, Mee Room, 3rd Floor,
MU.
An informal discussion about basic terminology and issues affecting
transgender and gender-variant people.
1-2pm -- Bathroom Art Party! Mee Room, 3rd Floor, MU.
Join us to make arts & crafts about everyone's right to accessible
restrooms. We'll provide the raw materials, just bring your
creativity and a sense of bathroom justice!
7pm -- "Southern Comfort" screening, 117 Olson.
Feature-length documentary about Robert Eads, a transsexual man in
Georgia diagnosed with ovarian cancer. This film documents the last
year of his life, after over 20 doctors refused to treat him.
Discussion will follow.
Tuesday:
1-2pm -- Transgender Legal Issues, DeCarli Room, MU.
Co-sponsored and hosted by Lambda Law.
6:30pm -- Pierced, Inked & Modified: Women's Body Art, MUII.
Professor Victoria Pitts explores the connections between body
modifications and contemporary struggles over sex and gender.
Sponsored by the Women's Resources & Research Center.
Wednesday:
12-2pm -- Transgender Safe Zone Training, Smith Room, MU.
This training will focus on the ways in which trainees can become
better trans-allies. Learn about key issues in transgender
communities today and how to enhance your communication skills with
regards to transphobia and gender policing.
Thursday:
12-1pm TRANS-National: A Look at Transpeople in Latin America,
Fielder Rm, MU.
An active exploration of the status of transgender people and their
uphill battle against a society that shuns their right to exist. We
will look into the role of the government and the church as well as
the effects of machismo and homophobia.
Co-sponsored by Services for International Students & Scholars, as
part of International Education Week.
1-2pm -- "Toilet Training" screening & discussion, Fielder Room, MU.
This short documentary produced by the Sylvia Rivera Law Center of
NYC explores the policing of gender in public restrooms, from rest-
stops to public high-schools. Includes interviews with Eli Clare,
Amber Hollibaugh, Dean Spade & Carmen Vasquez.
7pm -- "Georgie Girl" screening, Young 194.
Hour-long documentary about Georgina Beyer, a Maori transwoman in New
Zealand who became the first transperson to hold national office in
1999. Discussion to follow.
Friday:
12-1pm -- Trans Needs on Campus Roundtable, Founders Room at Alumni
Center.
Join representatives from various student services offices on campus
for a discussion on how staff can work collaboratively to enhance
services for transgender students.
2-4pm LGBTQI Self-Defense. Please call to register in advance.
Taught by certified instructors, this workshop will include
awareness, prevention, risk reduction and realistic self-defense
tactics and techniques. Open to all genders, with an emphasis on
issues affecting transgender and gender-variant people. Registration
required. For more info or to register, please call 752-3372 or stop
by the WRRC.

7pm -- Transgender Day of Remembrance Memorial, MUII.
Annual memorial service for those transpeople who have died as a
result of violent crimes. There will be speakers and a reading of the
names of those who died over the past year, followed by a brief
candlelight procession. Those attending will be invited to speak if
they wish to. Reception to follow.
