Education not Incarceration (http://www.ednotinc.org) is playing a major role in working to defeat Oakland's Measure Y, a "violence prevention" measure which would prioritize hiring and maintaining 63 new cops through a regressive parcel tax. We believe that police and prisons do not prevent violence, but are actually part of a cycle of violence and poverty. We are working to build and support organizations and institutions that are truly working to end violence through food, housing, education, jobs, healthcare, and transportation; through building healthy communities, not by locking people up.
Please save some time beginning the weekend of October 16th to walk precincts with us on Saturdays and Sundays from 10AM - 2PM. We will be walking out of the ACORN office on Saturdays at 3166 Fruitvale Ave. and location TBA on Sundays.
We are still doing Outreach Saturdays now from 10AM-2PM, beginning with an hour meeting and training at the ACORN office at 3166 Fruitvale Ave.
