Hotel workers' union votes to authorize strike
A spokeswoman for a union of San Francisco hotel workers said the membership voted overwhelmingly today to authorize a strike if negotiations for a new contract fail.
A spokeswoman for a union of San Francisco hotel workers said the membership voted overwhelmingly today to authorize a strike if negotiations for a new contract fail.
UNITE HERE Local 2 spokeswoman Valerie Lapin said that 77 percent of the eligible membership voted today, and that 97.3 percent of them said "yes" to authorizing a strike, if necessary.
"We hope this vote is going to send a strong message to the management. We want a fair contract now and we're tired of it taking so long," Lapin said.
