8/30 in NYC: A Call to the Peace Movement

by PPEHRC
We will march from New York City's United Nations at 45th
and
1st Avenue at 4pm through downtown Manhattan to the site of the RNC at Madison
Square Garden, with or without a permit.
CALL TO THE PEACE MOVEMENT

On August 30, 2004, the Poor People's Economic Human Rights Campaign will
lead thousands of poor and homeless families and others from across the United
States and the world in a peaceful march on opening day of the Republican
National Convention. We will march from New York City's United Nations at 45th
and
1st Avenue at 4pm through downtown Manhattan to the site of the RNC at Madison
Square Garden, with or without a permit.

While the U.S. government continues to make war and kill people around the
world, it is committing grave human rights violations against its own people as
well, implementing economic policies that impoverish and kill people across
the U.S. Every year, 18,000 people die in the United States from not having
health care - that is more than the number of U.S. soldiers that have died in
the
war in Iraq. Thousands more die from being homeless, hungry or without heat.

The March for Our Lives: Stop the War at Home will show for the world the
miserable conditions and human rights violations being suffered by people in the
United States, as both Republicans and Democrats have abandoned the poor.

We call on the peace movement to stand with us on August 30th as we march for
economic human rights because war and poverty are inseparably linked.
Poverty, the denial of economic human rights, and the lack of consciousness of
the
U.S. poor all serve to feed the U.S. war machine. Today, we, this growing
movement of the poor in the United States, stand among millions of the world's
people in denouncing both the war and the impoverishment of the world's majority
for which this government is responsible. As those most devastated by both, we
will continue fighting to stop the war and to end the policies of our
government which impoverish people at home in the United States and around the
world.
Despite every effort to keep the poor in the United States isolated and to
divide us from the poor internationally, we will constantly stand up in unity to
reclaim a world without poverty and war, a world of human rights for all.

Please join us on August 30th as we March for Our Lives to Stop the War at
Home.
