Call for a Green Bloc at the RNC

by Green Bloc
Events that the Green Bloc is focused on participating in: critical mass
on 8/27, mass gardening support on 8/28, the “more than a million” day on
8/29 and the True Security call as part of the “Shout Heard Round
the World” mass non-violent civil disobedience on A31. Our goal for the
31st is to create an open, welcoming space for people to plug into the
actions that will be happening that day that offer not just a critique of
the capitalist system that’s gotten us into this mess, but a vision of a
better world.
CONFRONT THE PROBLEM WITH THE SOLUTION...
The Republicans are coming to New York on August 29th, are you?
While they nominate Dark Lackey Bu$h to continue with his
agenda of the anti-us, we will be there to resist and offer alternatives,
building popular power and direct democracy in the process. Do you want to
engage in actions that raise the stakes from “Impeach Bush” to “Impeach
Capitalism” while simultaneously planting the seeds of wild possibilities
for the better future that we construct with every step? Let’s talk –
we’ll be setting up ongoing conference calls and/or meeting places via our
listserve at greenbloc [at] lists.riseup.net (subscribe by sending an email to
greenbloc-subscribe [at] lists.riseup.net).

In the lead up to the RNC, we will focus on supporting the incredible
community garden projects in the South Bronx (see below). During the
convention, we'll be on the streets.

How will we make that happen? Where will we meet up to make plans in New
York? There’s some folks with ideas and experience in doing this that
will participate, but your ideas are fully welcomed. Share them and keep
up-to-date by joining our listserve – again, that's
greenbloc-subscribe [at] lists.riseup.net. There will also be a conference
call this Saturday at 5pm EST to talk to one another "live." Call-in
number is 641-497-7001, access code is 962631#.

So, this is open to unaffiliated individuals as well as interested
affinity groups. We’re also interested in clustering with other groups
that are bringing
alternatives to the table, as it were. Biodiesel/alt. energy, bike power,
local currencies, free schools, community gardens, public power, etc. Our
planned garden-events are totally open to workshops for people that want
to do such things. Post ideas to the listserve or contact Mike
(louiex [at] riseup.net) or Meddle (meddle [at] riseup.net).

THE GREEN BLOC...
The Green Bloc recognizes and utilizes the natural organizing principles
of the earth in direct actions of resistance and construction. We operate
on principles of ecology, direct democracy, non-violence, feminism,
anti-racism, creation, creativity & fun.

So, hook into our listserv or meet
us at the following dates, times and places, wearing green and
ready for joy and action. All curious are welcome.
Bring tools if you’ve got ‘em. If you don’t, don’t worry. If you’ve Never
gardened before, you’re still encouraged to come:
Saturday, August 14th at the Cortlandt Community Garden
11am - 4pm
A work party on the smallish side to get to know the neighborhood folks as
well
as other Green Bloc people.
DIRECTIONS: Take the 2 or the 5 to the 149th & 3rd Ave exit in the Bronx
Walk North on Melrose to 158th, go left
The garden is in the middle of the block, on your left (the South side of
the street), before you get to Cortlandt Street

Saturday, August 28th at the Bush Community Garden
11am - 4pm (time subject to slight changes)
A massive work party to demonstrate the world that we're for on the eve of
the
upcoming large-scale shows of dissent -- which we will also participate in.
DIRECTIONS: Take the 2 or the 5 to the 149th & 3rd Ave exit in the Bronx
Walk North on Melrose to 156th, go right
The garden will be on the left at the end of the block. The cross-street
is Elton.

The Green Bloc’s wish is to ensure that local struggles are strengthened,
rather than weakened, by the presence of the mass of demonstrators.
Please keep that in mind.

Another open Green Bloc meeting/work party will take place, most likely on
August 26, from
noon until the day turns to night. Garden TBA. Food will be served. :-)
And the main intent will be to
finalize plans for the upcoming week of actions and marches. We will have
an informal spokes amongst existing Green Bloc affinity groups and time
set aside to facilitate affinity group formation for those currently
without. After the meeting there's the possibility of making art for use
in the critical mass
the next day and the many marches and actions of the following week.

More details forthcoming. Of course.

Overgrow the State!!
Resistance is Fertile!!
