Protest in San Jose Over Police Killings
A small demonstration took place in Cesar Chavez Plaza in San Jose Saturday, July 17 to commemorate the unnecessary deaths of victims of police violence.
The action followed a mass for the families of the victims in St. Joseph’s Church nearby. At the event were family of Cau Bich Tran, Rudy Cardenas, Camerin Boyd, Richard Rosenberg and Chila Amaya, all killed by police. Above, speaking, is a nephew of Rudy Cardenas, Jesse Villareal.
Speakers decried the use of deadly force by police when dealing with people with mental health issues.
The deaths of Cau Bich Tran and Rudy Cardenas, which both took place in San Jose within the last year, are causing a re-evaluation of police behavior in the community. A Grand Jury hearing on the case of Rudy Cardenas, starting Monday, will be open to the public.
