Direct Action to Stop the War-sponsored community picket of anti-union, war profiteer SSA at the Port of Oakland, April 7th, 2004, marking the one-year anniversary of major police violence against anti-war protesters, as well as the still outstanding charges against 25 of those protesters and the ongoing occupation in Iraq.

...and maybe realizes that it is better to accomodate the free speech rights of demonstrators/picketers than to violently attack them, especially with 50 federal civil rights lawsuits pending against OPD for injuries sustained in last year's police riot, not to mention the notorious mention in a recent U.N. report. The Port of Oakland shut down early that Wednesday to avoid controntation, so while it was a ghost town, apart from protesters and a smattering of police (not in riot gear with weapons this time), the picket was effective in shutting down the war profiteers, if only momentarily, and in showing OPD that protesters will no be intimidated by police violence.
