Idriss Stelley Foundation Opens Its Doors

Seven months after SF City and County settled with
Mesha Irizarry regarding the murder of her son Idriss
Stelley at the Sony Metreon on June 13, 2001, ISF
(Idriss Stelley Foundation) finally opened its doors
in the heart of BVHP, right next door to the Green
House, at 4921 3rd Street. ISF offers free,
confidential services to Bay Area biological and
extended families whose loved ones have been
negatively impacted, disabled or killed by law
enforcement.

On March 27, Mary and Willie Radcliff graciously lent
the Green House for ISF open house, which turned out
to be a powerful, high spirited event, in spite of the
total absence of City officials (Where are you,
Sophie?), mixture of moving testimonies, hip hop and a
great food experience thanks to Jessie's International
restaurant! Performances from Michael Pipkin, Ruff
Diamonds, Shay Lyn and Kofi Kwango rocked the house,
while community activists and friends of ISF took the
mike to celebrate our victories. Among them (only to
cite a few) were Rita Akayama, (Bay Area Oct 22
Coalition to Stop Police Brutality), MaryKate O-Connor
(Caduceus Director), Siri Margerin (graphic
artist/anti war activist), Rolland Shepard (retired
Union organizer, Local 4, anti police brutality
activist), Samina (Director of American Muslim Voice,
and National Steering Committee of Blue Triangle),
Venus Noble (Oakland anti police brutality advocate),
Kim Shree Maufas (Police commission nominee and BVHP
resident, mother of Francesca, victimized by SFPD at
Thurdgood Marshall). We were honored by the presence
of Kanijah, mother of 20 yr DeAngelo, killed by a
security guard in the Western Addition on January
2004. Michael Hibbitt, owner of BVHP Community Radio,
103.3, came along to celebrate the success of our show
"No Pigs in DA Hood !" which airs every Sunday from 6
to 8 P. M, we love you Brotha !

ISF is opened to the community starting this Tuesday,
March 29. Regular office hours are Monday through
Thursday, noon to 6 P.M. Our office number is (415)
822-4731, e-mail isf23 [at] sbcglobal.net. Give us a call
or write us for details on ISF services! We are
currently involved in the nomination of the new police
commissioners, and in monitoring SFPD Mental Health
Training and Cultural awareness training.
