To fellow Seekers of Justice for Rachel Corrie
The Berkeley City Council passed a resolution seeking the investigation of Rachel Corrie's death in Rafah, Palestine, by an Israeli soldier with a bulldozer. This is meant to bolster the resolution the House of Representatives is putting forth, and Congresswoman Barbara Lee is one of the co-authors of this important resolution. Can you imagine how easily this would pass if Rachel was Jewish??
I am so pleased to report to you tonite that we had a "major" success for
Rachel Corrie tonite! It wasn't easy, but we did it.
It was a very emotional evening tonite at the Berkeley City Council meeting.
It was a real cliffhanger but Resolution 47 calling for the investigation
into Rachel Corrie's death was voted for in favor of it (5 to 4!).
Many Zionist pro-Israel supporters showed up. But MORE pro-Palestinian and
pro-Justice people showed up! Yeah!
Emotions ran high on both sides. The Zionist side resorted to lies to try
to support their insupportable position. They slandered the International
Solidarity Movement with several lies, most glaringly, they claimed the the
ISM is tied in with Hamas! Of course, our side, with the help of George
Littman, an American Jew who is obviously probably not a Zionist, neatly
dispelled these lies. One Zionist Jew, not realizing how racist he sounded,
said that his Jewish friend Marla Bennett was killed by a Palestinian
suicide bomber, and "she was one of ours", as if Rachel Corrie is not one of
his, just because she was not Jewish.
Many people from the International Solidarity Movement were in attendance,
as well as the beloved Barbara Lubin of the Middle East Children's Alliance.
I have to admit I got a little rowdy and shouted out " WIMP!" to Mayor Bates
when he waffled on the resolution. That was really fun!
I was in the front row with a big sign that said "WHO killed Rachel Corrie?"
All in all, it was a very uplifting evening. I was interviewed by several
young college-age journalists, and naturally, I gave them all the news that
is fit to print, and lots of websites to check out about racist, apartheid Israel.
