The People Of Oakland Will Not Be SIlenced By Jerry Brown Or Any Other Thug
On Saturday April 26th several hundred protesters gathered at Jack London Square to denounce the silencing of dissent by Jerry Brown and the OPD. As the march moved to Frank Ogawa Plaza, the crowd chanted in unison decrying the use of force by the OPD against port workers and protesters on April 7th.
Early on the morning of April 7, Oakland police fired upon peaceful protesters and workers at the Port of Oakland. Members of ILWU 10 were standing by, not crossing community picket lines in front of their work entrances because it was a health and safety matter. Nearly without warning, the Oakland Police Department started firing wooden dowels, concussion grenades, and beanbags at everyone there, hitting workers and protesters in the face, neck, and back. An ILWU Local 10 Business Agent was also arrested in the madness. The Mayor says the OPD did the right thing.
