March15 Breakaway-7 photos

by cp
These were taken during the march 15th breakaway march from the ANSWER directed main march
m15sitdown3reduc.jpg
My pictures weren't so descriptive this time because the duracell batteries I bought only gave me 12 pictures and large numbers of police quickly forced everyone up on sidewalks in long thin lines and into several groups, divided by red lights, so no one could perceive what was happening down the block.
First, at 9th and Mission, police blocked people from walking east and announced that people not standing on the sidewalk would be arrested. Then police shoved lots of people from the sidewalk into the street. Then, a group of 10 voluntary arrestees sat in the street. Shortly after this time, a civilian car accelerated into some people in the crowd and they flew over the windshield.

a woman in an uncle sam hat who I don't think was with the breakaway march got arrested for unknown reasons. people became spread out along market street here. The only way to really photograph the scene was from across the street.

Lines of police kept closing off some streets due to their numbers and threats with batons. People were often divided into four groups at intersections.
§arrest plus pushing
by cp

Police pushed a large group up against the Old Navy Windows. At no time did I or my acquaintances observe any vandalism during this day. In this picture, the person in red had just been shoved and another person is being arrested for unknown reason. They didn't do graffiti or step off the sidewalk
§scene at 4th and market

While a group of perhaps 1/4 of the remaining breakaway marchers had gone over to 3rd street, attempting to flee the scene, and were encircled by police who arrested literally everyone on one half of the block including teenage girls on their way to the movies, tourists from Japan, Holland and France with shopping bags, and other shoppers, most were kept at 4th and Market by police, and were mixed together with lots of shoppers. People weren't allowed to cross the street to leave
§arrest by sony metreon

I don't know what this person is being arrested for. First officers wouldn't allow anyone by the Sony Metreon, so people went back up to Market and weren't allowed to pass there, then people went back to the Sony and walked around the block to Old Navy again. No obstruction of traffic, property damage, was observed at any time.
§mass arrest on 3rd

The other part of the group was finally able to get over to 3rd st where this quizzical mass arrest was occurring (you all earn a point, arrestees!) after several people received calls from their friends in the encirclement. One person was allowed to have their video camera run for the whole time during the arrest. They never let the shoppers go, and most had never heard an order to disperse, had were in fact not stopped anyplace on the sidewalk and were dispersing at fast pace down this street. Historically, people have received hundreds of dollars for mass arrest situations like this for false arrest, after some amount of legal work
