4/4 SF Tenant Rally
On April 4, 2002 at 12 Noon in San Francisco at the 505 Van Ness State Building, there is a tenant rally for stronger rent control through repeal of the Ellis Act and Costa Hawkins law; just cause eviction protections and $2.1 billion in affordable housing. Tenants also want legislation to reduce move-in costs, make it easier to tenants to obtain our security deposit and allow tenants to have 60 days' notice instead of 30, when forced to move.

Join the San Francisco Tenants Union (415/282-5525) and the Senior Housing Action Committee (415/546-1336) for this important tenants rally for tenant rights and affordable housing. Stop skyrocketing rents (most rents are still not affordable), unfair evictions and slum landlords. For more information, see the SF Tenants Union website at:

If you wonder where the $2.1 billion will come from: Cut the prison budget and transfer it to schools and housing. At the national level, cut the military budget and transfer it to housing, medical care, education, public transportation and all the other things we need. Turn swords into plowshares. In addition, the progressive income tax on the rich has been cut. The income taxes from all sources (dividends, capital gains, etc.) on those who make over $200,000 per year must be raised, and those who make less than $70,000 per year should have their taxes cut to zero, thus boosting the purchasing power of the workingclass. Before World War 2, the workingclass did not pay income taxes; the workingclass is paying the war tax. The survival of humanity mandates peace.
