George Tirado's name is spelled "Tirado." sorry for the misspelling/typo above.

Since there was a 1997 Bay Area Anarchist Bookfair, if it has been annual, then this is at least the 6th. I saw somewhere else that it's the 7th annual anarchist bookfair.
yup, it's the 7th annual anarchist bookfair, but it's the 5th annual anarchist cafe.

you guys should not become an anarchist website. It's not right. No other section of the movement gets the same promotion from you guys and I don't know where in the indymedia charter it says anything about doing this. It's not right. I don't care if your collective thinks like this, you are limiting yourselves and reducing indymedia to a function of the anarchist movement.

It's a small feature on an upcoming anarchist gathering. A lot more attention is devoted to a ton of stuff that is not specifically anarchist-oriented. Indymedia is open publishing, think about that. I don't remember ever seeing SF Indymedia declare itself officially anarchist, though correct me if I'm wrong -- that would be cool. And remember that it is an editorial -collective-.

if anything this site, like most imcs, has become place for much bullshit to be spout off at an incredibly fast rate, you know, like free republic. a great majority of the people that i know would and are interested in sf indymedia (and imc overall), just don't bother posting, commenting, or oftentimes stopping by to see what's up, due to the excessively low level of quality reporting by real, live independent media acivists in the bay area. sf imc, to be sure, is much better than most, but there is still a long-ass way to go.

but it's not just a function of the anarchist movement. if only anarchists were organized or something...then, and only then, could it be called a movement. and really, there are all kinds of opinions expressed on this site, in the center column, on the newswire, in the comments. highlighting this once-a-year weekend is by no means an indication that there is too narrow a focus. if anything, many other imcs are boringly liberal...

anyway, if you're worried about it, stand up and do something. get out there and do your part by making media fer chrissakes!

Does this apply to medical marijuana patients or cigarette smokers???

Yes, it would be a problem is SF IMC declared itself anarchist. Open publishing is cool, but the features column is where the real action is at and the IMC was not set up to promote anarchist events under the official banner of the IMC.

The problem is that others will stop using it. Instead of building up your own anarchist site, you are using the prestige of the global IMC to promote your politics to the exclusion of others.

And that's not right. I'm sorry, but Lorenzo speaking is not the same level of news as the Palestine conflict, the war at home and what have you. Neither is the anarchist book fair. There is space for announcements, but you guys put Lorenzo's entire bibliography down under the IMC name.

Nobody else is doing this but anarchists. I quit another IMC for similar reasons and that to me is a shame.
