I stole the webby news award

by rabble (rabble [at] protest.net)
The Webby Awards are a celebration of corporate domination over the internet. The whole purpose is to take a popularly created participatory and democratic medium and laude the work of people who are squeeze profit out of it. Sure there are some categories such as activism, the arts, and weird, but the focus, in their rhetoric and during the ceremonies, are the profit hungry dot com's.

You keep throwing the word "action" around. What, afraid to admit that words like "theft" and "disruption" also apply?

Fine, so your motive was political instead of monetary. Quit playing word games though. If your message is so weak that you need to prop it up with spin control to hide the faults within your tactics, you're only confusing your own message.

"Direct action" is becoming almost as absurd a term as "humanitarian bombing". Any yahoo with some nerve and an ounce of political ire, thinks he can smash, torch, block, or steal anything he wants with moral impunity from his subcultural peers if he just invokes the "direct action" cover.

Civil disobedience, as born in the 60s, was about protesting unjust laws by breaking *those* laws, not just causing any random trouble you can and shouting a slogan during your 15 seconds of fame.

I applaud your madness, but can only roll my eyes at your method.

ah, yes another day of Camus' absurdity manifest before us. the masses surely applaud your heroic vigor. although, i am not quite sure if it was artistic enough for true appreciation. the poor working class has been catalyzed by your saunter on stage and the new hope of social revolution unfurled as protest.net takes up the banner of revolutionary struggle on the battlefield of the webby awards stage. surely, the forces of global capitalism are shocked into retreat by such a daring deed.
