Francophones outside Quebec have to learn english. But do i think its wrong? of course not because they would be ghettoizing themselves if they did that, but a lot of anglos in Montreal do exactly that.
Quebec is the most biligual province in Canada, which shows a spirit of tolerance. Just look at the métis population of Monteal, and youll see that french and other cultures meet very often. Im not saying that there arent bigoted and racist french people , there is some racism in Montreal. If you pick up Journal de Montréal, Allo-Police, youll see that. But pick-up Voir or l`aut journal and thats the other side of the medal youre not talking about, Quebecs progressive community. A part of that community is in Quebec city right now.
Go take a look at french schools to see if young francophones dont mingle with other people from other culture. My friend, whos a New-Yorker now, and vietnamese of origin, says that when he comes back to Montreal, its like a weight comes off his back, like he can relax, and theres not so much racial tension here. He was telling some parts of New-york were heavily segregated, even between cambodians and vietnamese.
Im not saying theres no racism in Montreal, there is, but your post is exagerated, and one-sided. Montreal gazette and anglo people have some pretty bigoted comments about french people often, dont leave em out of the picture. I smell a double standard. Would you dare say theres no anglo racism towards asian "illegal immigrants" in Montreal or english Canada? Can you say Stockwell Day and the canadian alliance? Puhlease
