I saw Marla handcuffed and arrested 01/24/01 at PGE

by Dan Mattson (handyman [at] california.com)
by accident I don't have video. In my scramble to be in the right place at the right time my camcorder was off when I thought it was on. I did end up in the right place and will do my best to report what i saw.
Around 5:30 the march had gathered in the PGE courtyard along Beale Street between Market and Mission. Video follows to show the SFPD set up a line across this courtyard that the marchers for public power completely ignored and entered the courtyard for a spirited rally.

Anyway, all efforts were made to close the entrances to PGE.

Marla, who made it to Davis' office on 12/18 without getting arrested, found her way into the PGE building a little after 6 pm. I was ten fet away with a glass wall between. After an encounter between Marla a guy in a suit which involved physical contact, they were joined by a uniformed SFPD officer. Apparently a heated conversation followed. Then Marla was handuffed by the SFPD and taken to an elevator. After disapearing she briefly reapeared. Fifteen minutes later, people who had gone to mission street side of the PGE building reported she was taken away in van.

As of this writing her staus is unknown.

this is ridiculous. any globalization video you watch about IMF planning policies in any other country is all about a police state enforced move to privatizing all industries... this is the exact same situation here in San Francisco. we are mandated by law to have a right to cheap, public access to our hydro power supply. and pg&e *steals* it right from us and those who would speak out against it are thrown in jail. i feel like we should teach pg&e a lesson in cash flow by refusing to pay our bills until a truly public and democratic process is put in charge of our energy policies that *we* must pay for.
