Why has noone contributed a sidebar on Mumia?

by slothrup (slothrup [at] saber.net)
Why has nobodt posted sidebars re: Mumia Rally, yesterday?
Why has nobody posted anything, (photos, articles, videos...), in these sidebars about the Mumia rally yesterday? I was at the blockade at Oakland's port yesterday, and so unfortunatly I missed the rally, bur I'd really like to know exactly what happened.
This isn't being covered in the Mainstream media, and so if it is going to covered the people who wwere there will have to report it here.

Come on folks!!! It's very easy to criticize SF indy-media for sparse coverage re: Mumia,
but we're all the reporters here. The rally's been over for almost a day now. Why hasn't anyone posted anything?
by sf-imc reader
thank you. the important thing to remember is that we must be able to count on distributed reporting. we are ALL indymedia, so post those reports!

Briefly, I attended the march, it was lively and peaceful. A few hundred people showed up.

People were carrying lots of signs and posters with Mumia's face on them. Chanting, among other things
"BRICK BY BRICK,
WALL BY WALL,
WE ARE GOING TO FREE
MUMIA ABU JAMAL"
A lot people in the area, tourist, etc., show interests, asked questions, contributed, took flyers, and even joined the march around Union Square and back to Powell and Market.
At that point a vote was taken (unanimously) to march to the SF Chronicle Head Quarters at Mission and 5th St.
At that point I had to leave.

I took a few pictures which I will have developed in a couple of days and will try to post them.

Did you guys stop the unloading?? Would love to hear. Thanks
by dlothrup (slothrup [at] saber.net)
We did syop unloading Fridau night. But didn't have enough folks on the picket line Saturday to keep the workers out. We did signifigantl delay the unloading, though, so that's sort of a victory. Tere's a lot more detasil in a nother sidebar on SF indymedia's main page.

A CASE FOR REASONABLE DOUBT? (Video)
A one hour documentary analyzes the evidence that put Black
journalist Mumia Abu-Jamal on Pennsylvania's death row for allegedly
killing a cop. Originally broadcast on HBO. This is a remarkable act
of journalism that lays out vital issues in Mumia's case. He will
appear in court in Philadelphia on August 17th to request that
evidence of his innocence excluded by the trial judge be placed in
the record.

The World Socialist Website has an excellent article on Mumia Abu-Jamal on 8/21/01, including a short statement from Mumia on his being barred from the courtroom. It also contains a detailed analysis of what went on in the courtroom. See:
http://www.wsws.org/articles/2001/aug2001/maj-a21.shtml

The last paragraphs indicate the necessity of mass protests, as we had in San Francisco on August 18, 2001:

"At the hearing on August 17, Judge Dembe also issued a ruling attacking freedom of speech and impeding political support for Jamal’s defense. Dembe ruled that Abu-Jamal’s legal filings will no longer be available to the public without restriction. Those who want to see the filings must now request the judge’s permission.
Up to now, the free flow of information about Mumia’s case, particularly on the Internet, has been indispensable for the defense campaign."
