textChatting with a Conscience-Lacking Council by Robert Norse
The 'No Public, Please" City Council meeting today again has call-in access only, and likely Oral Communications limited to one minute and cut off at the whim of Mayor "I Kneel with the Police Chief" Cummings. I pass on suggested talking points. However, deaf politicians and staffers need large numbers showing up at workplace and home to be convinced. Obediently following do-nothing guidelines nothing....

Mission Santa Cruz was spray painted for a second time this month during a march organized on June 21 in support of defunding the Santa Cruz Police Department. The phrase "Maldita Cruz," which roughly translates to "cursed cross" or "damned cross," was spray painted on the replica mission, and an American flag was burned on the mission's historical landmark plaque, with the phrase "decolonize everything" spray painted over it. The word "genocide" was spray painted on the back of the historic ...

image"I Can't Breathe": Remembering David Cross, Killed by Corrections Officers in Santa Cruz County Jail
by Santa Cruz Police News
David Cross, a 44-year-old local plumber, was killed on September 18, 2005 in Santa Cruz County Jail while experiencing a mental health crisis. Corrections officers who responded that day to address his health issues decided Cross needed to be restrained, so they sat on his back as he lay on his stomach and "hog tied" him on the floor of the jail. Cross screamed, “I can’t breathe,” “I’m going to die,” and “Please get off me,” before his body went limp after 3 1/2 minutes of being restrained. ...

textThe Questions Grow More Pressing by Robert Norse
I've been persistently raising issues of police abuse with the SCPD. Most recently, I sent a letter to Chief Andy Mills with a variety of questions, following up on issues raised months (and often years) ago. He roplied. I responded to his reply a few days ago. So far no reply....

imageFederal Criminal Complaint Links Attack on SC Sheriffs, Oakland Security Officers to Boogaloo Movement
by Fred
U.S. Air Force Sergeant Steven Carrillo has been charged federally with murder and multiple other counts in connection to the attacks on Santa Cruz Sheriff's deputies in Ben Lomond on June 6, as well as the attacks on federal security officers outside the federal building in Oakland on May 29. The attacks on law enforcement officers left two dead and three injured in total. by Alex Darocy
The original Mission Santa Cruz adobe and the replica mission were both spray painted yesterday during a demonstration organized in Santa Cruz in support of the abolition of police. The phrase "Fuck Your Citizenship" was painted on the Neary-Rodriguez Adobe, and the phrase "Maldita Cruz" was spray painted on two structures. The word maldita means "damned" or "cursed" in Spanish. Additionally, the word "genocide" was painted on the state park plaque, and the mission bell located in Mission Pla...

textSome Questions for Sandy Brown and the City Council by Robert Norse
An e-mail sent to Councilmember Sandy Brown will likely result in no action at City Council. More seriously, the Council, which has ultimately control of the police through the City Manager, needs to be forced to confront long-standing SCPD issues that are of a piece with demands on departments across the nation....
