Southern Sea Otters to Retain Federal Protection
Oakland, Calif., September 19, 2023 – The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) announced on Tuesday that southern sea otters will remain protected under the federal Endangered Species Act. The population of Santa Cruz County shrank in 2022, according to a report released by the State of California Department of Finance on Monday.
