Arrestee Solidarity, March for Stolen Lives, & More
Oakland 100 Rally & March by Supporters of Victims of Police Brutality Feb 6th
UPDATE: Former BART officer Johannes Mehserle made bail and was released Friday afternoon.

On Friday the 6th, many organizations called for a day of resistance to police brutality and the criminalization of a generation. Beginning at 9AM at the Wiley W. Manuel courthouse in Oakland, many of the over 130 people arrested for protesting the police murder of Oscar Grant had their arraignments. The Oakland 100 Support Committee called for a show of support inside and outside the courthouse. On Friday, the District Attorney chose not to pursue charges against 28 people who had been arrested for misdemeanors, while one misdemeanor and two felonies set to have arraignments Friday were to proceed. The next arraignments for those arrested in connection with Oscar Grant protests are February 9th, 13th, and 17th.

On the same day at the same court building, a pre-trial hearing was scheduled (but postponed until April) for Stafani Tang stemming from World Cant Wait demonstrations at the Marine Recruiting Station at Berkeley. She is charged with obstructing a police officer, after one of the repeated incidents last spring when the Berkeley police in riot gear assaulted World Can't Wait's. Tang, a leading figure in WCW, is the only one to still face charges. Announcement

At 3PM, families of victim of police murder and supporters gathered at Frank Ogawa Plaza to protest the killing of people of color by the police. A "March of Stolen Lives" began about 4:30PM. The city of Oakland granted only one hour for the event and resisted allowing a march. Organizers had called on people to contact Mayor Dellums to demand a march permit. Demonstrators marched anyway, without a permit, while a heavy police presence corralled people onto sidewalks throughout.
