International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples Protest at Bechtel HQ
On August 6th and 9th, the 61st anniversaries of the U.S. atomic
bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki (August 9th is also the UN International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples), people all over the world demanded an end to the war in Iraq, no military attacks on Iran or North Korea, and a path toward the global abolition of nuclear weapons, starting at home.

On Wednesday, August 9th, a Ceremony and Nonviolent Action took place at Bechtel Corporate Headquarters at 50 Beale St. in SF. This morning of protest included a ceremony led by Western Shoshone spiritual leader Corbin Harney. (

Audio of Hiroshima Day: SC Weapons Inspection Team Street Theatre Skit from Santa Cruz. The skit was in part a way to publicize the march on Wednesday, August 9th, at the gates of Lockheed Martin in Bonny Doon. The march will begin at 2pm Wednesday, 1/2 mile before the gates to the facility on Empire Grade Road. Read more The Santa Cruz Weapons Inspection Team also holds a vigil outside the Bonny Doon Lockheed Martin site on the second Thursday of each month each month.
On August 5th, there was a Livermore Peace Camp at the Del Valle Regional Park, beginning at 12pm. Also on that day, the Raging Grannies were at the Sunnyvale Farmers Market, from 11am to 12pm. They distributed "No More Hiroshimas" flyers.
Photos On Sunday morning, August 6th, a Ceremony and Nonviolent Action were held at Lawrence Livermore Nuclear Weapons Lab. The morning of protest and action featured a Japanese
Hibakusha— an atomic bomb survivor— at one of the principal nuclear
weapons design labs in the world, a mere 50 miles from San Francisco.
