Raging Grannies Protest in Sunnyvale

On the eve of the sixty-first anniversity of the bombing of Hiroshima, members of "Raging Grannies" staged a protest at the Sunnyvale Farmers Market, Saturday, August 5, to bring attention to the increasing threat of nuclear materals stored in the Bay Area.

The Grannies bought fruit and vegtables and then performed a mock test to illustrate the danger of our food becoming contaminated with radioactive material in the event of an accident.

Lawrence Livermore Laboratory has recently been granted , by the Department of Energy, an increase in its ability to store plutonium.

According to the Grannies, the Laboratory can now keep 3000 lbs of plutonium, enough for 300 warheads.

The livermore lab is thirty miles from Sunnyvale.
