In Berkeley, City Councilman Kriss Worthington is on the receiving end of the most expensive campaign in that city’s history. Like Black, Worthington’s challenger (George Beier) has blamed the incumbent for a high crime rate in the Distr...

Divide & Conquer
It’s the all too familiar fracture in the American Left: the rich want parks and open space, the poor want decent jobs and housing, both all too often unwilling to compromise one for the other. Granted it’s not that black and white, but looking at the various community groups and organizations that have mobilized around the controversial Oak to Ninth project it seems that those archetypes fit....

Gabriel Meyers walked out of court angry today after superior court judge ruled against him and allowed the SF district attorney's office to proceed with a felony criminal charge that Meyers attempted to lynch himself at the now infamous anti- G8 demonstration in July of 2005. Meyers made a statement to the court before he left today that he feels that the government is "railroading and scapegoating" him. He and his supporters have alleged from the beginning that the charges against him are ...

What if we actually had the opportunity to lead? For Gonzalez, the help came too little, too late. He fell just short, and the race begged the question: If the next opportunity was right in our own backyard, would we know ...
