On April 18, 2012 a picket was called by CWA 9415 KPFA
members to demand the firing of the anti-labor law firm Jackson
Lewis. The firm has been retained by Pacifica which owns the
stations for legal services. CWA District 9 Regional Director
Libby Sayer also called for a financial boycott of the station
for supporting union busters. The picket was supported as well
by the "KPFA Worker" and "Save KPFA" grouping.

§CWA calls for financial boycott of Pacifica KPFA

The CWA District Council 9 Regional Organizing Director Libby Sayer called for a financial boycott of Pacifica and KPFA
We heard the Republican Party law firm client, Brian Edwards Tiekert, who was represented by Dhillon & Smith in a contrived lawsuit against Pacifica, state he, the $25,000 a year part-time employee with full medical benefits, unheard of anywhere for parttime workers, wants a pay raise. Ms. Harmeet Dhillon is chair of the San Francisco Republican Party. WE, THE LISTENER-SUBSCRIBERS, HAVE NO MONEY FOR PAY RAISES BECAUSE WE DO NOT GET PAY RAISES ON OUR JOBS. We are in a Great Depression, not likely to disappear for at least 10 years, if not longer. The KPFA audience is not wealthy and as we retire, we have NO MONEY to give KPFA. So far, the largest segment listening to KPFA appears to be those of us born 1940-1960, the Baby Boomers, the largest generation in history. As we retire, WE LOSE OUR DISCRETIONARY INCOME. The workingclass younger supporters HAVE NO MONEY and KPFA must be the voice of the workingclass, of all colors.

Tiekert did not bother reconciling his representation by a Republican Party law firm with the hiring of a management law firm, Jackson Lewis, by Pacifica, to defend itself against Tiekert's Hate Pacifica Gang, which no labor firm can do by definition. All of these management law firms are the same. If Tiekert's Hate Pacifica Gang would stop filing phony lawsuits and false charges, there would be no need to hire any management law firm.

Should this white Klan union, as JR Valery correctly described it in the above video, succeed in having its supporters refuse to contribute to KPFA, THERE WILL CERTAINLY BE NO PAY RAISES and THERE WILL BE NO PAID NEWS DEPARTMENT which is where Tiekert and his Hate Pacifica Gang sit. We do not need or want any paid news department; A COMMUNITY RADIO STATION DOES NOT NEED ANY PAID NEWS DEPARTMENT. The hour-long 6 p.m. weekday newscast is mostly filler and biased toward the capitalist Democratic Party. We can replace that drivel with either a volunteer half hour newscast as we have on the weekends, plus an extension of other public affairs programs, or something entirely new.

The representative of the union stated that the huge AT&T and Verizon workers represented by CWA STILL HAVE NO CONTRACT AND ARE WORKING WITHOUT A CONTRACT. Yet, those huge profit-making companies are not being picketed; their workers are not on strike. CWA has the unmitigated gall to picket tiny, poverty-stricken, charity, Pacifica Foundation which owns the KPFA license where at KPFA they claim to represent 28 paid employees out of 200 workers, the others being volunteers. This is the fascist Democratic Party’s election frauding thugs, the Labor Lieutenants of Capitalism, attacking a voice of the workingclass that plans to broadcast the Green Party convention and hopefully will give more voice to socialist candidates.

This is the Democratic Party’s election fraud team, which has just installed election fraud Mayor Lee in San Francisco and is trying to get rid of Sheriff Mirkarimi on false charges because he will certainly expose the election fraud. No one of the picketers could state who voted for this law firm on the Pacifica National Board, but they showed up at this picketline anyway. This means this is nothing more than a political attack on those of us who pay for our radio station, a government agenda, promoted by the picketers’ leading light, Larry Bensky a former KPFA programmer and former editor of the CIA’s Paris Review, more fully described below.

What is the chair of the Republican Party in SF doing at KPFA?

Pacifica network is one interconnected entity, and its finances are very simple and straight forward.

The stations and network revenues come mainly from listener support and the rest from CPB.

The stations and network expenses are mainly salary and benefits with the rest being fixed expenses.

Since the stations and the network cannot function without its technical and administrative staff, any extra-ordinary expenses like defending against a lawsuit or any shortfall from a financial boycott is going to come out of salary and benefits of the programming staff.

Throughout their ongoing actions against KPFA and Pacifica, "Save KPFA" and "KPFA Worker" have exhorted people to de-fund the station and Pacifica.
The latest such pronouncement was by CWA Libby Sayer at their rally on April 18th.

A financial boycott of KPFA can, in the current financially unstable condition of KPFA, mean the demise of the station, but of an entire nationwide network of 5 stations and over 160 affiliates, the only only progressive radio network in the US.

What kind of progressives are these, SaveKPFA/KPFAworker, who are willing to cause such a loss?

They are the original authors of the financial crisis which caused the 2 layoffs resulting in the loss of the old Morning Show, (substituted by the Morning Mix, just as, or more, community oriented programming, and more diverse as well).
When the amount of paid staff hours were increased, some repeatedly warned that the size of payroll was unsustainable, yet nothing much was done. This was a period of 4 different General Managers, 2 of whom were members of the entrenched staff faction, and 2 who were unable to gain their cooperation and were soon pushed out by them.

In the years when a sectarian group headed by Program Director Bernard White, aided by GM Don Rojas, took control of WBAI and ran it into the ground financially, and it needed the funds of other stations to support it, that faction, known previously as KPFA Forward, and next the Concerned Listeners, prevented any corrective measures.
[See the article "Pacifica Financial Crisis: Who is Responsible?"
http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2009/05/14/18594819.php for more information.]

When Pacifica National directed all stations, and itself, to reduce paid staff hours, only KPFA did not comply, leading to its loss of 1 1/2 million dollars in 3 years, and necessitating the intervention of Pacifica in 2010, which precipitated the present criminal Save KPFA deception of the listeners about the present situation.
During this time, the CL were the majority on the board and one of their members was the treasurer, who covered up this state of affairs, and blamed WBAI for the losses.

Part of the platform of the CL was that they were the "Financially Responsible Slate", and also the slate of "Civility".
No wonder they had to change their name (to Save KPFA, also KPFA Worker).

Do not believe their hype, and do not vote for any of them in the coming election.

If not for their policy of harassing Pacifica with meritless lawsuits, our money which we donate to KPFA could support a strong KPFA and Pacifica in fighting the planet and people's destroyers, instead of going to a firm like Jackson Lewis or its colleague firms.
