Pablo Paredes:
Last night Sen. Reid filed a new version of the DREAM Act under Rule XIV procedures (S.3992). It has at least 16 major changes 15 of them toxic. The original DREAM much like the Bay-Area Graffitti artist by the same name is dead. These changes were made as a last ditch effort to win Republican support to pass a bill in the Lame Duck that Democrats never fought for when they counted on super majorities and had much more political capital in DC. For some it is still worth fighting for, for others it is too little to late. Regardless of where you stand one thing is clear this is not the same Bill that inspired a 10 year movement on college campuses. It is not the same bill that immigrants rights orgs and activists held their nose and supported when CIR lost it's last chance. It is the new and degraded Republican DREAM Act and here are the major changes:

Julianne Hing (Colorlines):
After California Sen. Dianne Feinstein asked ICE to halt the deportation of San Francisco nursing student Steve Li this past weekend, she made good on her promise to try to keep Li in the country. Today Feinstein is expected to introduce a private bill on Li’s behalf, which in effect will halt his deportation and keep him in the country.

Mr. Li and Supervisor Avalos do not mention this-- instead they only talk about education. For some, especially those who can afford it, isn't this great?
But most of the the poor, many immigrants, the opportunity to serve in the military will always be a a more viable choice than an education.
These spokespeople for the "Dream Act" should be ashamed of themselves for sacrificing others for their own opportunity.
They should expose this sham for what it is and demand amnesty for all immigrants.
