Reactionary Larry Bensky attacks Pacifica Elections; Defends Morning Show Tantrum

by Keeping track
Today's whine by the Thug Hallinan Gang at 6:30 p.m. on the news not only proudly promoted the vicious tantrum by the arrogant swine called the Morning Show, after the engineer "coincidentally" called in sick, it interviewed the most reactionary defender of this gang, the infamous Larry Bensky.
First as to Bensky:

1. His attacks to callers on air:

2. Supporters of Pat Scott Gang and union busters American Consulting:

7. His anti-labor outlook on labor programming:

8. His contempt for free speech:

9. His attack on William Blum's book exposing the CIA and a reminder that Bensky was editor of the CIA front, the Paris Review, at

As to non-profit elections, 10% is the usual participation at all non-profit elections. It is a problem with the American attitude toward elections.

As to the alternatives offered by Bensky's buddies, the Thug Hallinan Gang, here is how worthless they are:
http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2010/11/09/18663597.php

Here is a good description of the staged sick-in by the engineers in SF and LA:
http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2010/11/09/18663681.php
"On Tuesday morning engineers based in both Berkeley and Los Angeles called in sick, opening the possibility for Allison and Edwards-Tiekert to host a renegade program."

Here is a good description of the vicious attack on KPFA this morning by Bensky's buddies. My advice to all who oppose this gang including Arlene Engelhardt it to not allow them to debate you or anyone else as they can air their grievances at their union hearings.
See Dr. Sapir's description at:
http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2010/11/09/18663677.php

Here is the announcement of the November 11, 2010, 4:30 p.m. rally to save Flashpoints, Hard Knock, Full Circle, outside KPFA, 1929 MLK, Berkeley:
http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2010/11/03/18663056.php

We the listener-subscribers are the employers of the paid staff and it is our station, not the staff's station. The outrageous slap in the face that we heard this morning on KPFA should never again be allowed. There is a forum for airing grievances, namely the union grievance procedure. We heard this morning the most arrogant, bully garbage this writer has ever heard from anyone. It might interest these bullies that there are 11 million people living in the Bay Area, some of whom comment on this website. We are female and male, old and young, and do not have time to show up at meetings. We are however listener-subscribers who were disrespected this morning by the tantrum of hate. This campaign we heard this morning was not just anguish about loosing a job from people who have skills and can find a job. If you have not experienced loosing a job in your lifetime, welcome to reality. We know this gang is promoting a Democratic Party agenda, and in fact their sponsors, the Thug Hallinan Gang, are proud open members of the Wellstone Democratic Club who openly promote their reactionary agenda.

I'm totally hostile to Bensky and the entire Thug Hallinan Gang. But i don't see the new regime as an improvement. Pacifica executive director Arlene Englehardt and chief financial officer LaVarn Williams came off as corporate bean counters. And the idea of replacing the Morning Show by piping in LA programs such as Uprisings, hosted by Amy Goodman wannabe Sonali Kothkahar, is quite revolting.

this is hella dysfunctional. It's so difficult to understand this if you are a casual or new listener.

No, Arlene Engelhardt , new ED of Pacifica, and LaVarne Williams, CEO, are by no means corporatists.
They are almost unique in their courageous confrontation of the precarious fiscal state of KPFA and the other Pacifica stations. (It was Arlene's predecessor, Grace Aaron, who was the first to do this.)
Previous EDs avoided confronting what one of them called "housekeeping"; to be fair, or they were prevented from it. To be fair, it may have been no longer possible to ignore the crisis. But they are doing it.
LaVarn Williams' predecessor CFO protected the thugs running WBAI in New York from scrutiny. LaVarn and another PNB delegate, supported by Richard Phelps, were the first to insist on examining the books of WBAI and Pacifica to discover fiscal mismanagement, back then. (Dan Siegel, as ED, later tried to blocked this again.)
The bringing in of programs from KPFK was a temporary expedient, to be replaced by local programming run by other hosts at KPFA as soon as possible (Arlene said 10 days). Unfortunately they did not talk to the listeners to give them a heads up first. Unfortunately they have been "guests" on core staff programs where they get interrupted and talked over by Edwards-Tiekert and Bensky, etc.
With the wins by the forces of reaction at KPFA and WBAI in these last Board elections, we will be lucky to have these 2 with us continuing to safeguard the network from ruin - no exaggeration!
We should be happy to support them.

Hard for me to see this as anything except a clash between two competing corporate forces.

Sad that Bensky is featured on a main article on here, with nothing but protests -- why was that posted? Why does it remain posted?

>>His attack on William Blum's book exposing the CIA and a reminder that Bensky was editor of the CIA front, the Paris Review, at

What does that say then about Indybay promoting a person whom almost all the readers on here reject and who many believe may have had an agenda to shut down the real issues?

I am troubled that Indybay appears to want Bensky as a keynote speaker at its 10 year anniversary event.

I pointed this out recently, it was denied, and now appears to be reinstated.

I cannot pretend to be an expert on the affairs at KPFA, but I largely quit listening to it, and KQED long ago-- primarily because I view both stations as censoring non-trivial discussion about the "War On Terror" and how our country finds itself involved in it.

I did recently listen to Bensky and Michael Krasny of KQED expressing their mutual admiration on a limited 30 minute KQED Forum "investigation" of the affairs of KPFA, which sickened me-- as I view KQED to be a key local promoter of propaganda and disinformation about the agenda of the two war parties and the agenda of financial elites.

Bensky was a denier of 9/11 truth and censored non-trivial discussion about third parties.

Even the more "cutting edge" programs of KPFA more often promote identity issues and follow the mainstream media's lead at the expense of serious discussion about class and alternative strategies to end war and the financial elites' economic assault on working people. Local stories have been pithy at best.

I am no longer a fan of Democracy Now, which has a morbid fascination promoting differences and conflict, without deep analysis or coverage of issues that should unify people against the corporate state and its agenda. Amy Goodman is by purpose or default a left gatekeeper who censors or blurs 9/11 truth-- and fortifies popular prejudices by promoting caricatures of the "left" which the right loves to hate. More indicative of her true leanings: a recent interview she had with Al Greenspan which was disturbing for its softball questions and lack of focus. She consistently promotes circular-promoting pundits and spokespeople that echo the worldview of magazines like the Nation and In These Times and highly overrated leading lights like Howard Zinn and Noam Chomsky. That roster should be familiar with anyone who has ever followed Democracy Now regularly. Are these apologists for the continuing neocon agenda under Obama, these clever Sophists who divert attention by concentrating on niggling side issues the best the American "left" has to offer?

Does Indybay, like KPFA (or on a smaller scale, de facto clowns like Code Pink) end up "owning" war resistance and "truth" while war and economic devastation spreads without a hiccup? Who is truly independent and not a part of a navel-gazing and divorced niche which ultimately limits broader, wiser, and better organized resistance? Is my own confusion and sense of powerlessness a victory for the Powers That Be?

These are troubling questions which I cannot answer.

Bensky appears to be off again as a keynote speaker.

Will he be back?

Any explanation?

Like He said... enough of the Bullshit already...
by Listener - New Member
In light of recent events and much information that is coming to the surface as well as KPFA and the listeners reclaiming the Morning Show... hopefully more of the truth about this regime will come out to the regular audience. In light of all this I call for new elections to try and resolve the mistakes of the last election. I for one did not vote, am a new member and was only able to sit on the sidelines during the last election and whats more did not have enough information to make a proper decision even if I were a member at the time. However, now things are clear. Perhaps the cost of a new election makes it a non-reality, however... the idea should be considered... These people must not be allowed to get their hands on this station...

The articles linked at the two threads re Bensky and 9/11 are outdated by the march of events. Mr Science kept making aspersions about the scientific accuracy of "conspiracy theorists" and asserted that no reputable engineers have supported the notion of WTC demolition. Well, since those threads were active, late 2007, an organization known as Architects and Engineers for 9/11 Truth has made huge strides. It now has over 1300 signatures from degreed engineers and architects calling for a new investigation, including a bunch of structural engineers, with thorough scientific explanations of why the official account is not only untrue, but violates the laws of physics. See http://www.ae911truth.org
And also see the challenge by David Ray Griffin to Left despisers of 9/11 truth to deal with the evidence, particularly 9 bits of evidence which would require "miracles," open violations of the laws of physics, to be explained by the official account
