Arrests At Schwarzenegger's SF Office Protesting State Budget Cuts

by Bill Carpenter (wcarpent [at] ccsf.edu)
June 23, 2009
Part 1
Five-minute QT movie. 66MB. More than a dozen demonstrators for disability rights from the coalition "The People's Day of Reckoning" were arrested on June 23 in front of Governor Schwarzenegger's office in the State Building in San Francisco. A speaker from the coalition calls out that tax cuts for the wealthy are the last thing to be touched in the state's budget crisis. The first thing to be slashed is care for the most vulnerable...including programs that serve people with disabilities.

While she is speaking a police officer announces over her voice that the gathered are guilty of "unlawful assembly" and will be arrested unless they disperse. One by one demonstrators in wheel chairs are taken to a holding area, where they are cited for blocking traffic.

Part II with more of the arrests is at: http://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2009/07/05/18605754.php
