Migrant Workers at UCSD Burn Unit
4 unidentified migrant workers languish in critical condition at the UCSD Burn Unit
The Union Tribune reported last week (Oct. 29, 2007) that there are about 7 migrant workers who were caught in the middle of the Harris Fire on one of the first days it started, and they are now at UCSD Burn Unit.
Of course, the Union Tribune is run by NeoCons who like to blame all of their problems on illegal immigration, so the article focused on the migrant workers' inability to pay their massive medical bills.
Does anybody have any information on the fire victims, or any suggestions about how to help?

From what I can gather, there are 7 migrant workers in the burn unit, and 4 have yet to be identified...
The charge nurse at UCSD Burn Center just told me over the phone that all the fire victims in the Burn Unit have family tending to them. She stated that everyone has been identified.
This is wonderful news! This is a perfect opportunity to remind ourselves that all Californios are of the same family. When I heard that migrant workers were caught in a canyon and severely burned, it was so difficult to fathom... how hard life was, crossing an illegl border to find work and then coming face to face with a vicious wildfire!
It is my firm belief that SDG&E should be held liable for the injuries caused by the fires their powerlines started.
This applies primarily to the Witch Creek fire. Ramona residents are on record stating that powerlines swinging back and forth in the wind sparked and ignited the Witch Creek Fire.
SDG&E and Sempra Energy must answer our concerns about the safety of their powerlines. We, as united community, question the need for the Sunrise Powerlink. More massive powerlines are not the answer to our energy needs.
There should be no more victims of fires caused by corporate energy giants.
I hereby publicly challenge SDG&E and Sempra Energy to explain their role in the recent wildfires, and to personally cover the medical expenses of the migrant workers, firefighters, and San Diego county residents who were injured by their greed and negligence.
