Amidst Bombings and State Repression, Oaxaca Goes to the Polls
On August 5, Oaxacans participated in the state legislative elections. The elections occurred days after a series of bombings throughout Mexico claimed by the Popular Revolutionary Army (EPR), who is demanding the release of two of their disappeared members. Many fear widespread fraud similar to what brought Ulises Ruiz to power and some question the legitimacy of the EPR and fear that their actions will be used as a justification for repression.
On August 6 in San Francisco, a benefit was held to support human rights work in Oaxaca.
