UCSC Student Government Resolution for Wage Parity
A few weeks ago, the official (Regent-endorsed) student government of UC Santa Cruz, the Student Union Assembly, unanimously approved the following resolution demanding that low-paid workers receive wages in accordance with other nearby institutions. The UC promised thousands of dollars to the lowest paid workers, many of which are members of AFSCME 3299, yet, up to this date, have not released this money.
60 workers were arrested outside the UC Office of the President last Thursday, February 15, while hundreds rallied in support both on-site in Oakland, as well as at a rally at UC Santa Cruz.

Whereas, the proposal submitted incorporated:
1. All full time workers making less than $25,000 a year will be brought up to $25,000.
2. Those full time workers making between $25,000 and $35,000 will receive pay equities based on their seniority on campus, and
Whereas, UCSC Administration reported to AFSCME that President Dynes will not sign these proposals because he want to tie this money to AFSCME’s worker’s current Pensions bargaining, and
Whereas, with the help of the Speaker of the House – Fabian Nunez and Don Peralta, Custodians at UCSC, UCB, UCSB and 100 grounds keepers at UCI have also identified $8.5 million in the UC budget, and
Whereas, President Dynes has not allocated this money to its intended location, and
Whereas, a letter from Peralta and Nunez was sent to Dynes to remind him of the money and where it is suppose to go, and
Therefore, let it be resolved that the representative body of the undergraduates of UCSC, SUA:
• Support AFSCME in it’s effort to receive parity wages.
• Will send a letter to President Dynes urging him to release and allocate the designated monies.
• Will have respective constituencies sign pledge cards to send to President Dynes urging him to release and allocate the designated monies.
