Police StateOakland Press Conference Pictures
On April 7th 2003 the city of Oakland attacked a peaceful gathering of protesters. The wooden bullets used by the police clearly indicated on their casings that they were not meant to be shot at demonstrators and that they could be fatal. Speakers from the NLG and several protest groups spoke at City Hall at 2:30 to address the aggressive police tactics of the OPD. ![]() no_war.jpgj77414.jpg

do you know where we can find out what was said?
There should be Audio At Some Point

It sometimes takes people awhile to upload it. Unfortunately I mainly take pictures (which dont give a lot of info when not combined with audio and/or text).
The press conference covered the details of what happened at the protest. Evidence of the weapons used by the police was shown to the press. Updates were also given on the injuries done to protesters and the illegal nature of most of the arrests (only a few minutes between the dispersal order and the use of guns by the police). I showed up late but Im pretty sure the ILWU also gave an update on the status of their injured workers and the arrest of their Business Agent. passer by

![]() 0407-05.jpgl90593.jpg Dear north american people,
After all these terrible actions against innocent people we can see that U.S. isn´t more a free country. The word liberty pressed on the coins doesn´t means nothing. The frauded elections resulted in an illegitimate government. To give these powers to a "beast" is not an intelligent option. Is a menace not only to our surviving, but to all humanity. The right way is the impeachment and bring him to face the war criminal court. The peace can be achieved only with peaceful actions, violence brings only more violent acts. Be aware of the wrong way and the right way will be safe. open my eyes

I am sicken to see what our these so called "police" have done to innocent people. It is also saddening to think that there are men and women over in Iraqi fighting for this so called "freedom' that we no longer have. With actions like these it is clear that we can no longer ignore the fact that what is left of our freedom is slowly being taken away from us. The government may think that they can pull a blanket over some people's eyes, but not mine after these photos.
Get real

Refresh your memory and read this article...this is a link to Washington Post online newspaper.Copy and paste if necessary.
The title is a little misleading. If you read on,multiple analysis of the uncounted votes favored Gore by an average of 7,000-8,000 votes....give or take a thousand. And in such a close race (remember the total count was in the range of 5-600 range for the final decision,Kathleen Harrison prematurely announced the winner, hence, the lawyers came in to defend both sides of the political tornado that ensued. Now this article has acknowledged that Bush would still have won ONLY if the limited vote recount was done. But,Gore would have won by a landslide if there was a state-wide recount. This race was probably the closest race in history....and the wasted votes from the heavily democratic counties may have changed history. The supreme court changed they way we are considered, regarding voting practices in this country. This is old news now,but before you write anything more, please get your facts straight.Thank you. http://www.washingtonpost.com/ac2/wp-dyn?pagename=article&node=&contentId=A12623-2001Nov11¬Found=true |
