textCouncil Kills Public Space in the Parking Lots by Robert Norse
It will now be illegal to hang out (i.e. trespass) in any of the city's 20 downtown public parking lots. This amounts to at least 5 square blocks of previously accessible public space. If you are parking or retrieving a car or bike, you will have 15 minutes to do so, but it will be illegal to sit in and stay near your car (for more than 15 minutes). There is no requirement that police warn you before ticketing you....

textBorder Militarization, Humanitarian Crisis Continue by info
For the fifth straight year the number of bodies recovered from the Arizona desert surpassed two hundred. While 237 bodies of unauthorized border crossers were recovered in 2007, the number who actually died was likely much higher, their bodies to lie in wake among the thousands of square miles of desert along the migrant trail. imageHatred and Ignorance on Display for "Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week"
hate-table_10-22-07.jpg
by ~Bradley
This report is published to raise awareness and as a call out for people to counteract the messages of hate, ignorance and bias on display at UC Santa Cruz and other college campuses. Three young men sat behind a table in the Baytree Plaza at UC Santa Cruz on October 22nd as part of "Islamo-Fascism Awareness Week." The men and their table of hate-charged literature denouncing Islam were largely ignored for the hour they sat in the plaza. The table had a black, green and red sign for "Islam...

textPost-Apocalyptic Film Festival at Santa Cruz GDI Fri Oct 26th by Santa Cruz Guerilla Drive-In
I have been looking forward to this showing all summer, no for as long as we've been doing GDI, no maybe my entire life. Since I was wee I imagined a twisted, blasted landscape in which I, the sole survivor, could finally live out my dreams of freedom and watch the earth regrow and reclaim the cancerous works of mankind. On Friday we water the seeds of the apocalypse. Come join us. -Rico...
