RISE OF US CORPORATE FASCISM, WORSE THAN IDEOLOGIC FASCISM

by Frank Snapp editing Dr. Lawrence Britt (Pallas89 [at] sbcglobal.net)
"Fascism Anyone" by Lawrence Brit edited by Frank Snapp, 14 defining characteristics of fascism, particularly CORPORATE fascism rising exponentially in the US now
"Fascism Anyone?"

In "Fascism Anyone?" Dr. Lawrence Britt, a political scientist, identifies 14 characteristics common to fascist regimes. His comparisons of Hitler, Mussolini, Franco, Suharto, and Pinochet yielded this list. Modern Fascism is emerging less as an ideologic movement and more as a CORPORATE takeover of the rule of law in the US. Washington DC is now after 24 years of intense organized legal and governmental offensives, fully occupied by Corporate will and NOT the will of the people. Every member of Congress and every branch of our government is fully complicit in the current rapid and increasing emergence of this infinitely more hostile neo-fascism--Corporate fascism is and will ultimately be in the US itself, many times more destructive, violent and genocidal than any other authoritarian dictatorial movement in world history. It’s been creeping up on the U.S for decades as we U.S. citizens ALL have turned a blind eye to the sacrifice of the lives of tens of millions abroad for the economic “health” of our U.S. corporate and wealth classes. These corporate occupiers are now making their move to fully eliminate the U.S. Constitution and to replace the U.S. Constitution/Bill of Rights/Civil Rights Laws/Roe v. Wade, etc., with full dictatorial martial law with any declaration of Code Red under the very clear provisions of the Patriot Act I and FISA (Patriot Act II)—the latter recently passed by the Republicans and ALL the Democrats in Congress. John Kerry is co-author of the Patriot Act.

FASCISM’S 14 IDENTIFYING CHARACTERISTICS:

1. Powerful and continuing expressions of nationalism. Freedom Fries anyone? Prominent displays of flags and nationalist jingoism in the approved corporate media to the ubiquitous lapel pins and bumper stickers, to the fervor to show patriotic nationalism, and “UNITY” both on the part of the regime itself and of citizens caught up in its frenzy are clear signs of fascism. Catchy slogans, such as “Support the Troops” that utterly lack meaning and a general pride in the military and covert organizations are common themes in the current rise of fascism. Nationalism coupled with a ever more xenophobic (fear of different/foreign) suspicion of things foreign is also fascist. To seek solutions from foreigners or from foreign systems is considered traitorous or treasonous by fascists.

2. Disdain for the Recognition of Human Rights. Rummy afraid to travel to Germany, he might be arrested for war crimes in an international court for Abu Ghraib torture. Because of fear of enemies and for meaningless and vague declarations of “national security needs” the people in fascist regimes are persuaded that human rights can be ignored. The people tend to look the other way or even approve of torture, summary executions, assassinations, long incarcerations of prisoners, etc.

3. Identification of Enemies/Scapegoats as a Unifying Cause The people are rallied into a unifying patriotic frenzy over the need to eliminate a perceived common threat or foe: racial, ethnic or religious minorities; LIBERALS; communists; socialists, pacifists, all equated with terrorists as enemies of the state. Gays and women who seek abortions and the POOR are the most identified as enemies lately in the U.S.

4. Supremacy of the Military
Even when there are widespread and rapidly worsening domestic problems, the military is given a disproportionate amount of government funding, and the domestic agenda is neglected or attacked. Soldiers and military service are glamorized. The US has the largest military budget on the planet that exceeds all military budgets on the planet COMBINED and is 60 percent of all expenditure in the US government budget. This is NOT normal and cannot be rationalized. It is fascist.

5. Rampant Sexism
The governments of fascist nations tend to be almost exclusively male-dominated. Under fascist regimes, traditional gender roles are made more rigid. Opposition to abortion is high, as is homophobia and anti-gay legislation and national policy.

6. Controlled Mass Media
Sometimes the media is directly controlled by the government, but in other cases, the media is indirectly controlled by government regulation, or sympathetic media spokespeople and executives. Censorship, especially in wartime, is very common. This is the elephant in the living room. In the US, the media is controlled by EXTREME corporate media consolidation. Only 3 corporations own all the US media, whereas, 20 years ago, 50 different corporations owned the US media.

7. Obsession with National Security
Fear is used as a motivational tool by the government over the masses. The creation of the DIA (Domestic Intelligence Agency), the DHS (Department of FATHERland Security) modern FEMA and other overarching and rights invasive agencies developed in the US lately by reason of national security are incredibly indicative of fascism as is the entire fiasco of the 9/11 false flag operation executively managed in it’s entirety by Dick Cheney. http://www.wtc7.net

8. Religion and Government are Intertwined
Governments in fascist nations tend to use the most rigid and fascist religions in the nation as a tool to manipulate public opinion and to keep people living in fear and ignorance. Religious rhetoric and terminology is common from government leaders, even when the major tenets of the religion are diametrically opposed to the government's policies, actions or rule of law.

9. Corporate Power is Protected
The Corporate/military aristocracy of a fascist nation often are the ones who put the government leaders into power, creating a mutually beneficial business/government relationship and power elite. Since the fascism developing now is CORPORATE and not ideologic, this is the most important development and one of the most easily tracked in the U.S.

10. Labor Power is Suppressed
Because the organizing power of labor is the only real threat to a fascist government due to the power of the masses represented by workers, labor unions are either eliminated entirely after martial law (code red specifically provides for this), or are severely suppressed ahead of full dictatorial martial law. Over the past 24 years of PNAC (http://www.newamericancentury) economic policy of each and every US president in the period, labor rights and unionization have been radically undermined.

11. Disdain for Intellectuals and the Arts
Fascist nations tend to promote and tolerate open hostility to higher education, and academia. It is not uncommon for professors and other academics to be censored, arrested or assassinated even ahead of martial law declaration (Code Red under the Patriot Act, we’re at Code Orange 1/31/2005). Free expression in the arts is openly attacked and undermined, and governments often radically cut arts funding.

12. Obsession with Crime and Punishment
Under fascist regimes, the police are given almost limitless and military powers to enforce laws. The military are given police powers. Patriot Act II has eliminated Posse Comitatus, which separated the powers of State/municipal police and the military. The people are often willing to overlook police abuses and even forego civil liberties in the name of patriotism and national security reason assurances. There is often a national police force with virtually unlimited power in fascist nations and will be the case after Code Red is declared under the clear provisions of the Patriot Act I and II (FISA)

13. Rampant Cronyism and Corruption
Fascist regimes almost always are governed by groups of friends and associates who appoint each other to government positions and use governmental power and authority to protect their friends from accountability. It is not uncommon in fascist regimes for government programs benefiting and PIAID FOR by the people to be appropriated or even outright stolen by government leaders—eg., Social Security and other social/economic justice program privatization and deregulation with radical redistribution of this public wealth into a very small number of already greedy and wealthy private hands at the top. Kerry is friends with Ken Laye of Enron and refused to accept his offers to resign (three separate times) over the Enron scandal! Ken Laye sits on the Heinz Foundation board. The US military and 15 covert organizations receive more than 60%, the largest budgetary alotment in the US, and yet are the most fraudulent and underaccounted agencies, losing as much as $1 TRILLION tax payer dollars of value per annum since 2000.

14. Fraudulent Elections
Sometimes elections in fascist nations are a complete sham—US, Afghanistan and Iraq. Other times elections are manipulated by smear campaigns against or even assassination of opposition candidates, use of legislation and technology to control voting numbers (http://www.blackboxvoting.org, http://www.gregpalast.com) or by re-drawing political district boundaries (gerrymandering—rampant over the past 24 years), and manipulation of the media. Fascist nations also typically use their judiciaries to manipulate or control elections. (US in 2000)
