1. VIVA MAX, 1969. Friday, February 8 What with the horrid politicking over a border wall with Mexico going on, I wish to share a ridiculous tale of Mexicans occupying The Alamo, the most sacred MAGA site in Texas.
Enjoy a film series designed to serve the aim of "entertaining while imparting information about the subtler memes and messages projected in American popular culture." The four part series runs under the oxymoronic title THE BELLY-LAUGH OF WAR. These are perilous and exciting (if you're a sociologist) times we're in here in America--arguably the most politically divisive time I've seen in my post school-boy days--with the rise of voices desperate to recreate a supposed idyllic past mono-culture (MAGA) chafing at the cultural "climate" change brought on by fast-moving demographics. The contentiousness engages all the patterns of war-mongering down the ages, and so this series employs mostly comic cinema about war to spark conversation, some of which may lead to further art and politics.
Film 7-9 pm, post film socializing 9-???
