This gallery is very close to public transit: two and a half blocks from the Lake Merritt BART. The event is up a flight of stairs and is not scent-free.

POETS READING THE NEWS is an innovative digital platform that bridges journalism & poetry. We're looking to keep pace with the news cycle but also to transcend it: to bring attention to stories that get ignored, to share personal and creative responses, and to look globally.

Curators Elle Aviv + Jenna Spagnolo present Var Poetics = Function {EML}, an immersive and multi-dimensional event that explores the electric borders of poetics, activism, and technology and featuring the collective Saito Group.

Event from 7:00pm - 11:00 pm
Performative Presentations start at 8:00 pm

Var Poetics = Function {EML} is part of B4BEL4B Gallery’s Emergent Media Lab series & is organized alongside the current exhibition TLDR (http://tld.read.parts/). TLDR is about the influence of digital culture on the evolution of the written language.

{{ ABOUT THE ARTISTS }}

POETS READING THE NEWS (PRTN) is an innovative digital media project that bridges journalism and poetry, founded by EML curators Elle Aviv Newton & Jenna Spagnolo. This event marks the launch of the PRTN website and our open submissions! There will be poetry performances by the founders/curators, a video room to record your original poetry, and a Dadaist-inspired poetry workshop.

SAITO GROUP is an anonymous group of writers, designers and hackers in support of the right to the city, data rights and economic solidarity — they brand themselves as “semiotic warfare for the 21st century.” They will be streaming their crowdsourced Twitter poems and giving an anonymous live Q&A with the curators.
