Women in Black
I am trying to start a Women in Black group for Peace and Justice in Midtown Redwood City. If you would like to participate and have ideas regarding times and locations, please leave a note at womeninblackRWC [at] gmx.com. For more information read the articles below.
Women in Black…
…is a world-wide network of women committed to peace and justice and actively opposed to injustice, war, militarism and other forms of violence. Any group of women anywhere in the world at any time may organize a Women in Black vigil against any manifestation of violence, militarism or war. Women in Black (WiB) actions are generally women only. Actions often take the form of women (and also men) wearing black, standing in a public place in silent, non-violent vigils at regular times and intervals, carrying placards and handing out leaflets. The first group was formed by Israeli women in Jerusalem in 1988, following the outbreak of the First Intifada, and there are many thousands of groups today all over the world. The point is to remind others in the hectic pace of daily life to not only think of personal and local issues and needs, but also to promote actions and mindsets relating to peace and justice in the world.
