Another police murder brings Afghanistan to US
"This might happen in Afghanistan. People don't get shot for a traffic stop" said Deters: "This doesn't happen in the United States, OK?"
A Cincinnati prosecutor expresses remorse for the death of Samuel Dubose, who was shot in the head by University of Cincinnati Police Officer Ray Tensing during a minor traffic stop. Hamilton County prosecuting attorney Joseph T. Deters held a press conference Wednesday afternoon that was heard around the world: "This might happen in Afghanistan. People don't get shot for a traffic stop" said Deters: "This doesn't happen in the United States, OK?"
"He wasn't dealing with someone who was wanted for murder. He was dealing with someone who didn't have a front license plate. I mean this was, in the vernacular, a pretty chicken crap stop, and I could use harsher words.Nonetheless, if he's starting to roll away ... let him go. I mean, you don't have to shoot him in the head, and that's what happened."
Finally, technology has gotten good enough to expose police lies in at least this one instance, where the body cam worn by Officer Ray Tensing reveals an act of cold blooded murder. In his report, Tensing claimed he was dragged by the car of his victim. During the stop, the car is seen to slowly begin rolling, and this is where the officier's story is seen to contradict the video.
"It is a very very short period of time from when this car just starts slowly rolling that the gun is out and he's shot in the head," Deters said.
Deters further alleged Tensing tried to mislead investigators looking into the incident.
"I think he was making an excuse for a purposeful killing" The office was seen on the ground on a second video, Deters explains: "He fell backwards after he shot him (Dubose) in the head,"
"People want to believe that Mr. DuBose had done something violent towards the officer -- he did not. He did not at all. I feel so sorry for his family and what they lost, and I feel sorry for the community, too."
