Governor Brown says "If you ask me, I think you should be eating veggie burgers"

by Mike Sage (mksage [at] gmail.com)
In the first public statement of its kind, Governor Brown reveals his awareness of the huge water-footprint of animal agriculture.
On Tuesday, June 9, 2015, Governor Jerry Brown was participating in a public event discussing the California drought.

At 45:00 in the video below, Brown is being asked about the alfalfa that is exported to China. He acknowledges the matter and then says, "If you ask me, I think you should be eating veggie burgers."

Some people in the audience giggled, whereupon Brown continued: "But that's not the predominant sentiment."

This was at a public event entitled "Water in the West - Governor Jerry Brown Discusses Drought in California" presented in partnership with the Los Angeles Times, San Diego Union-Tribune, and KCETLink Media Group. The event was hosted by the University of Southern California (USC), and took place at USC's Town & Gown ballroom (http://www.kpbs.org/news/2015/jun/11/governor-jerry-brown-drought-socal-connected-speci/). The ballroom has a capacity of 1500 people (http://www.usc.edu/dept/pubrel/specialevents/venue_vendor/venue_result.php?venueID=373).

No surprise was expressed that Brown indicated awareness of the huge water-footprint of animal agriculture.
