Caustic Water at Joe Brown Park Pool
Recently, Caustic Water at Joe Brown Park Pool is causing increasing concern about the chemicals that caused the swimmers at Joe Brown to become ill. Amy Stelly, a resident of Treme who cares deeply about her neighborhood, has requested the City to provide list of all chemicals used in the pool, along with the expiration dates. The information is needed to provide the injured parties with more accurate information to share with their medical professionals.

A problem with caustic water at Joe Brown Park Pool recently is generating increasing concern about the chemicals that caused the swimmers at Joe Brown to become ill. Amy Stelly, and residents of Treme who care deeply about their neighborhood and NORD facilities, have requested the City to provide list of all chemicals used in the pool, along with the expiration dates. The information is needed to provide the injured parties with more accurate information to share with their medical professionals. So far, there has been no response from the City's Health Department.
Even though the swimmers began to fall ill last Thursday, a photo of Joe Brown pool, shows that the City knew something was terribly wrong before then. The photo shows the normally clear, blue water of Joe Brown pool as cloudy and green. And gallons of water are being pumped in, in a futile attempt to dilute the polluted mess! Sadly, the NORDC [New Orleans Recreation Development Commission] management continued to permit the public to swim in the contaminated soup until this past Monday, allowing the situation to fester for at least five (5) days. Once again, as with Treme, the City knowingly exposed staff and the public to hazardous conditions.
There will be a prayer vigil at the Treme Center [900 N. Villere St] - Friday April 3 at 7PM. Organizers would like folks to bring their own candles.
